Disappointments disappear when you learn the habit of letting go of expectations!
For almost a year now, I have been participating in the Sea Change Program a member base program created by Leo Babauta (I am highly influenced by him) to incorporate new habits monthly that serve me better towards my goal of being better everyday. This month’s module is called “Toss your expectations into the ocean”.
As Leo says: ” Disappointment often comes when our reality does not meet our expectations, which can be frustrating. When you get rid of your expectations, this makes it less likely for you to experience disappointment. While you toss out your expectations, you also get rid of the feeling of disappointment”. It has been challenging to learn to release my expectation. And I have found new expectations in every corner of my mind. And I have to say that this practice has been one of the must rewarding of the program. In several occasions I have found myself enjoying and appreciating the present moment for what it truly is.
For some reason I found the accountability part of the program to be more crucial than we other modules. I think is because this habit is very intangible, so talking about my progress makes it more clear on my head. I am learning to release control and be consciously aware of my expectations in order to reduce frustration and stress. Here’s how I am doing it and how you can too!
Have you ever stopped and thought about how many unrealistic expectations do you have daily? Every single bit of feeling uncomfortable, frustrated, sad, discouraged, down, depressed, afraid and so on comes from having an expectation. I would love to hear your thoughts, on how you work through your expectations or if you even ever noticed them. Remember that what we share can be medicine for someone else and for sure a step closer to a stronger vida!
